The school is located on the east side of Yoshiki County in Yamaguchi Prefecture. Yoshiki County is separated from neighboring Hofu City by Oumi Bay and faces Nishiura Town in Hofu. To the south is Suounada, a part of the Seto Inland Sea.
At the west is Aiofutajima in Yamaguchi City and at the north is Susenji Town, which is adjacent to Daido Town of Hofu City.
There is a population of 8,340 habitants aprox and an area of 24km2 and 25.2km of seashore.
Looking in the records of Aio Town we find the same name in Wamyosho, an old book which was published at the begining of the Heian era.
A village with the same name already existed, so I think the town was built as a seaport. We can still see the old footpath now in the Aio area. It ran from Aio to the castle of the Ouchi family, who ruled this area in the Sengoku era. The Ouchi family built this road for trade with foreign countries.
Arround the school there are 88 budda Reijyo,
Shouhachiman shrine known as cultural assets, the stone statue and family grave of Masujirou Oomura who was the pioneer of the Meiji Restoration, the Hiji stone baths, the 12-staged japanese traditioinal dance in Akasaki shrine and so on.
In contrast with the numerous historical spots, there are popular beaches to swim and yacht. Chudo beach is one of the most famous beach in Yamaguchi Pref..
One third of the land is designated for agriculture. The production is mainly of vegetables such as rice, cabbage, and onions, and fruit such as strawberries.
Once a lot of farmars in Aio grew Japanese tangerines, but most of them stoppoed growing those product.
Fishing has been mainly done with trawlnet and hook until the establishment of the Yamaguchi Prefecture Experimental Shrimp Station.
Aquaculture has expanded to include the extraction of shrimp, ark shell and expensive fish.
We hear in the development of that center we attract the attention and visits from institutions and researchers from all over the world.
